AirTran is Holding a Seat for You

April 5, 2011

Aboard its New Nonstop San Juan Flight

TAMPA – AirTran Airways and Tampa International Airport are celebrating again! On March 10th, 2011, AirTran celebrated its new daily nonstop jet flights to Key West and the celebration continues today with the airline’s inaugural flight to San Juan, Puerto Rico - the Island of Enchantment. With twice daily nonstop service between Tampa International Airport and San Juan Luis Munoz Marin International Airport, it has never been easier to plan an island getaway or a visit to catch up with family and friends.

“We are very happy that AirTran will provide great low fare service for our substantial Puerto Rican community. This new service helps to fortify our route network and is an indication of the rebound in our travel market”, stated Joe Lopano, CEO, Tampa International Airport.

Puerto Rico has one of the most dynamic economies of the Caribbean region with a diverse industrial sector that produces pharmaceuticals, electronics, textiles, petrochemicals, processed foods, and clothing. San Juan also offers a fantastic cruise port.

AirTran’s new double-daily schedule is a perfect fit for those people beginning their journey either in Tampa or San Juan. With departures in the mornings and afternoons on both ends, business passengers, vacationers, and people visiting friends and relatives have got excellent new travel choices.

The success of AirTran’s Tampa – San Juan service clearly signals the strength and vitality of our economy. That success bolsters our case for additional new markets and the tremendous economic benefits they bring. In fact, a recent study shows the economic impact of new flights is up to 150 million dollars annually. Every time a new service starts, our entire region wins.
