Construction to begin on new express curbsides

On June 6, the HCAA Board of Directors approved a contract allowing work to begin on Tampa International Airport’s 16 new express curbsides and other projects.

The contract enables utility relocations, site development, roadway modifications as well as the demolition of the Blue side rental car building and pedestrian bridges. The $31.5 million contract is with Hensel Phelps Construction.

The initial enabling activities are expected to begin soon, paving the way for heavier construction later this year. The work represents the start of construction on the first passenger facing element of Master Plan Phase 2, which also includes a 35-acre commercial development area, a new central utility plant and other projects.

Phase 3 – the final phase of TPA’s Master Plan – calls for a new 16-gate international and domestic Airside. Ultimately, Tampa International Airport’s expansion will help the TPA accommodate up to 34 million annual passengers.
