Crime fighter by day, community hero by night: Meet Officer Jimmy Bizzle

TIAPD Officer Jimmy Bizzle was recently named a 2019 Sykes Heroes Officer of the Year for his work with the homeless, at-risk teens and other good work.

He's a devoted husband and father, a strong advocate for the homeless and at-risk youth and a 20-year law enforcement veteran. Now Tampa International Airport Police Department Officer Jimmy Bizzle has one more description to add to his good name: Hero.

Bizzle was named a 2019 Sykes Hero Officer of the Year at at the 25th annual "Our Heroes Luncheon" at the Tampa Hilton Downtown hotel on May 21. The event recognized emergency workers from 11 Hillsborough County agencies — firefighters, police officers, sheriff’s deputies and a highway trooper — who risk their lives daily for strangers.

Bizzle, who began with Bartow PD and has been with TIAPD since 2010, was recognized for his efforts that bridge the gap between law enforcement and the community. He continues to servce the Tampa Bay Area through his efforts and volunteer hours with many foundations, crime prevention initiatives, teen and youth summits, and homeless outreach events.
