FAA to host Metroplex virtual workshops for Tampa Bay residents

The Federal Aviation Administration on June 4 and 5 will hold virtual workshops on the Draft Environmental Assessment for South-Central Florida Metroplex – the agency’s plan to modernize air traffic procedures for the region including Tampa Bay.

Metroplex is part of a broader congressionally mandated initiative called NextGen, directing the FAA to modernize the National Airspace System by improving airspace flight procedures around the country.

The virtual workshops will give residents an opportunity to learn more about the Draft Environmental Assessment and ask questions of environmental and air traffic control experts.

Information on how to participate in a virtual workshop and review and comment on the Draft EA is available at the South-Central Florida Metroplex website: www.faa.gov/air_traffic/community_involvement/florida/

The procedural changes proposed for Tampa International Airport are expected to take place at or above 10,000 ft. As such, communities around the Airport should not see any changes to how aircraft arrive and depart today. It is also important to note that the proposed flight procedure changes do not have any impact on the Airport’s long-standing Preferential Runway Use Program.

Public comment is welcome and highly encouraged.
