New route roundup: Five inaugural flights take off at TPA

Tampa International Airport welcomed a host of new routes last week that offer passengers exciting destinations to explore.

Tampa International Airport celebrated five inaugural flights with our airline partners last week, marked by gate events complete with cake and live music. The new destinations include four domestic routes and one international city, giving travelers a wider variety of options to fly from TPA.

If Richmond's on your mind, you're in luck: Spirit Airlines now offers flights to Virginia’s capital four days a week. This nonstop option not only caters to the demands of business travelers, but also opens up a world of opportunities for leisure seekers. With a history-rich backdrop and vibrant cultural scene, Richmond invites visitors to stroll along Monument Avenue, explore the Virginia State Capitol and unwind in the sprawling public park at Maymont.

Adding more Southern charm to their recent growth at TPA, Spirit Airlines introduced a nonstop flight to Charleston, S.C., that also operates four days a week. Known for its cobblestone streets, antebellum architecture and warm hospitality, Charleston is a destination that promises a delightful blend of history and modernity. Visitors can immerse themselves in the rich heritage of the city at the Historic Charleston City Market, savor local cuisine at renowned eateries and take a relaxing stroll along the picturesque Waterfront Park.

The busy city of Norfolk, Virginia, is now even more accessible from TPA thanks to Spirit Airlines. Flights to ORF operate 4 times per week. Boasting a vibrant waterfront, historic neighborhoods and a thriving arts scene, Norfolk offers a variety of attractions. Visitors can explore the Nauticus maritime museum, featuring panoramic views of the city from the historic Battleship Wisconsin, or take a leisurely walk through the Norfolk Botanical Garden. Head a little further north to reach Virginia's Historic Triangle of Yorktown, Williamsburg and Jamestown.

Frontier Airlines added daily nonstop flights between TPA and Baltimore-Washington International Airport, providing travelers with another option to reach Charm City. Baltimore, with its iconic Inner Harbor, historic neighborhoods like Fells Point and museums for icons like Babe Ruth (who was born here) and Edgar Allan Poe (who died here), invites visitors to immerse themselves in its unique culture. After a day of exploration, indulge in the city's famous crab cakes or steamed mussels.

Expanding TPA's international options, Lynx Air introduced nonstop flights to scenic Montreal. This charming city, with its unique French influences, offers visitors a wide variety of experiences. Exploring historic Old Montreal, sampling the cuisine in Mile End or enjoying the vibrant arts scene in the Plateau-Mont-Royal district will be sure to delight any traveler to this Canadian metropolis.
