All clear! Red curbsides re-open at night as demolition work wraps up early

The construction, which impacted Red Side passenger drop-offs and pick-ups, ends just in time for upcoming spring break

The Red Arrival and Departure lanes at Tampa International Airport are back to normal nightly operations after demolition of the old Airside D guideway and the Red Rental Garage finished early. The lanes were closed this month to overnight traffic, impacting Southwest, Spirit, Air Canada, Alaska, British Airways, Edelweiss, Lufthansa, Silver, Sun Country and WestJet passenger pick-ups and drop-offs.

The demolition was part of the second phase of work on the Master Plan, a three-part capital program that will increase the airport’s capacity to 34 million passengers each year. The old Red Side Rental Car Garage, which was replaced February 2018 with the new Rental Car Center, and old Airside D guideway must be removed to accommodate new express curbsides and a new guideway to a future 16-gate airside.
