Roadway construction at TPA will impact inbound drivers this weekend

Coming out to Tampa International Airport Sunday night or early Monday? An overnight construction detour could slow down your arrival.

Beginning 8 p.m. on March 1 through 4 a.m. on March 2, TPA will temporarily detour most arriving guests onto Spruce Street to accommodate ongoing construction on the George J. Bean Parkway. Visitors during these hours are encouraged to leave a little extra time.

The detour will send passengers arriving from Tampa and St. Petersburg from I-275 onto Spruce Street. From there, signs will direct drivers to make a U-Turn at the O’Brien Street light and back into Tampa International Airport.

As part of TPA’s Master Plan expansion, the Airport is widening the inbound and outbound Parkway. Ultimately, the new roadways will help the TPA accommodate 34 million annual passengers.

The roadway detour will allow crews to construct a crane that will help drive underground piles needed for the expansion.
