SkyCenter atrium: A view from above

There’s no better way to check out the progress on the new SkyCenter construction area than from the sky.

The building’s steel frame is complete and workers recently finished pouring the concrete floors for all five levels, allowing crews to work on the interior and exterior façade. On the inside, construction workers are framing out walls to create the various interior spaces while others are working on the mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems.

Later this month, the atrium will get its exterior face with the installation of glass and precast concrete walls.

Work on the SkyCenter atrium is far from the only activity in the area:

  • A pair of large cranes will soon hoist the steel frame for the elevated pedestrian walkway that connects the atrium to the nearby SkyConnect station at the Rental Car Center. The walkway will eventually provide a seamless connection between the SkyCenter office building and hotel to the airport as a whole.
  • Crews are wrapping up work on the new Cell Phone Waiting Lot, which is expected to be open in late November or early December. The newly reconfigured lot will feature upgraded amenities, including new restrooms and flight display boards.
