Spirit Airlines Adds Dallas/Fort Worth to Nonstop Destinations from Tampa

February 9, 2012

TAMPA - If you’re planning a trip to “The Big D,” you now have another nonstop option from Tampa – Spirit Airlines. Spirit will kick off the new service to Dallas/Fort Worth with four weekly flights beginning May 4.

“This is great news for Tampa Bay,” said Tampa International Airport CEO Joe Lopano. “Introducing a low-cost carrier into a market like Dallas/Fort Worth increases competition, making the trip more affordable and providing greater opportunity for our community to travel to this popular destination.”

The new flights, scheduled for Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, are projected to increase traffic between Tampa and DFW by 50,000 passengers per year, an increase of about 8.5% for the route.

To celebrate the new service, Spirit is offering $28.79 fares, which includes taxes and fees, between DFW and Tampa (each way, based on round trip purchase). The special fare is available Feb. 9 and 10 only at www.spirit.com.

“We are excited to be liberating even more customers from high fares by adding this service from Tampa,” said Spirit’s Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer Barry Biffle. “Our cheap base fares give consumers the opportunity to save money on travel, and our range of optional services for a fee allows customers the freedom to choose only the extras they value.”

Spirit Airlines has served Tampa Bay since 1996 and currently flies nonstop from Tampa to Atlantic City, Detroit and Ft. Lauderdale, averaging four nonstop flights per Day.
