Sustainability program honored for community contribution

(Nov. 4, 2015) The Hillsborough County Aviation Authority’s sustainability efforts have been honored again for improving the quality of life in Hillsborough County. Planning Commission Award 2015 - LEAF

Last week, the program – known as Legacy of Environmental Actions for our Future, or LEAF – received the award for outstanding contribution to the community in the commercial category from the Hillsborough County Planning Commission at the organization’s 33rd annual Planning & Design Award ceremony.

The award honors planning and design projects that contribute to a better quality of life in Hillsborough County, and serve as models for others.

The Authority’s sustainability management plan is a commitment to the triple bottom line of people, planet and prosperity. The plan establishes 36 initiatives that range from strengthening community partnerships to diverting more waste from landfills and reducing energy consumption.

The Airport’s LEAF program has also received top environmental honors for commercial airports in Florida from the Florida Airports Council.
