Tampa International Airport enters busy 2017 spring break travel period

March 8, 2017

Today Tampa International Airport officially enters its busy spring break travel period, which is on pace to potentially reach record numbers according to airline capacity plans and passenger projections. Between today through April 24, nearly 3.2 million passengers are expected to arrive at and depart from the Airport. Scheduled capacity is up 5.3 percent over the same period in 2016.

This year’s spring break comes at a time when the Airport is in one of its heaviest phases of construction, and TPA would like to remind travelers and guests to follow posted signage on roadways at and around the Airport and not rely on GPS directions, which may be outdated. Guest services, police, concessions, operations, security and other TPA departments have planned to have ample staff during this year’s spring break, particularly on weekend peak days, to ensure a seamless passenger experience.

Passengers traveling through Tampa International Airport during the busiest times of the year should remember the following tips:

  • All parking garages are open, including the highly convenient Short Term Garage, which is free for under one hour.
  • To avoid circulating the arrival curbsides, use the Cell Phone Lot, which has free Wi-Fi and restrooms.
  • Always double-check with your airline prior to coming to the airport to make sure your flight is departing on time.
  • Allow yourself at least 90 minutes until boarding time to check baggage and pass through security checkpoints. Those flying internationally should allow two to three hours until boarding time.
