TPA CEO named new Tampa Bay Economic Development Council Chair

Tampa International Airport CEO Joe Lopano is adding a new leadership role to his resume: 2024 Chair of the Tampa Bay EDC. The organization named him to the role at its annual meeting on Wednesday, October 25, at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino.

Lopano most recently served as Vice Chair and head of the Tampa Bay EDC’s Finance Committee. He replaces 2023 Chair Angel Gonzalez, who is Regional President for SouthState Bank, the largest Community Bank in Florida. 

At the annual meeting, Lopano highlighted the Council’s long-standing partnership with America’s Favorite Airport. 

“Our partners like the EDC are critical allies for marketing the region to bring in new service,” he said. “That collaboration has helped us continue to expand global access and opportunities for this community in a big way.” 

As the lead economic development agency for Hillsborough County, the Tampa Bay EDC works with executives, site selection consultants, real estate professionals, and other decision-makers to attract domestic and international companies to the area. The organization was established in 2009.
