TPA prepares for a record holiday travel season

With 9.5 percent more traffic than last year's Thanksgiving week, TPA expects congested curbsides and checkpoints

As families and friends around the country make travel plans to connect with loved ones, Tampa International Airport is gearing up for what is expected to be its busiest holiday travel season on record. During the next several days, TPA is projecting a 9.5 percent increase in traffic over last year’s Thanksgiving holiday period – an impact that will surely be felt on the Airport roadways, in the terminals, at the checkpoints and at our restaurants and shops.

TPA is planning for extra staff and more resources during this busy period to ensure the Airport runs smoothly, stays clean and provides a pleasant experience for holiday travelers. In addition to this, TPA urges passengers and guests to keep the following tips in mind:

  • When picking up passengers, use the free Cell Phone Waiting Lot or take advantage of the free hour of parking in the Short Term Garage and avoid circling the terminal roadways, which is prohibited
  • If flying out, plan to arrive at least two hours before the departure time in anticipation of longer lines at ticketing and checkpoint areas
  • Prior to leaving home, double-check coat pockets, bags and briefcases for any items that are prohibited by TSA, as carrying such items can cause delays
