TPA to close shuttle guideways as part of safety improvement project

Tampa International Airport will be permanently closing the shuttle guideways between the Main Terminal and Airsides as part of an ongoing effort to enhance safety and security across the campus.

This change is necessary to bring the Airport in compliance with industry best practices, and will go into effect beginning this fall. TPA asks that all guests and employees begin using the shuttles now instead of the guideways.

The shuttle guideways, which are the concrete areas between the shuttle tracks, were always intended for emergency use only and this change restores them to that purpose. In the future, emergency use of the guideways will be supervised by Airport Operations and Police personnel.

Once the new system is implemented, the doors will be locked and alarmed, triggering a notification to the Airport Operations Center if they are opened or an attempt is made to open them.
