TRAVELER ALERT: Southbound lanes of Howard Frankland Bridge closing for one night

Road-Advisory

The Florida Department of Transportation is planning an overnight road closure of the Howard Frankland Bridge this week that will affect drivers heading into Pinellas County via I-275 South.

FDOT is closing the southbound lanes of the bridge overnight from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Tuesday, March 28, to erect overhead sign structures along southbound I-275, the same work that was performed on the northbound lanes earlier this month.

Southbound on-ramps from Hillsborough County will be closed from West Kennedy Boulevard to Ulmerton Road and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Street on the Pinellas County side during the work.

Work is scheduled to be completed by 5 a.m. on Wednesday, March 29.

Drivers leaving the Airport to go to Pinellas County during this time may take either the Courtney Campbell Causeway to Clearwater or the Gandy Bridge to St. Petersburg.

The Courtney Campbell Causeway won’t be affected by the work. Detour signs for the Gandy Bridge will direct traffic to West Kennedy Boulevard to Dale Mabry Highway, then to Gandy Boulevard.

Please allow extra time to navigate this detour if you are traveling to Pinellas County from the Airport on these dates. Northbound I-275 lanes will not be affected by this construction. See a map of the route below.

The construction dates are dependent on weather conditions; the back-up date would be March 29.
