Two exits from TPA closing for Westshore Interchange construction
Ramps for SR 60 and the northbound Veterans Expressway from the George J. Bean Parkway will shut down overnight on Feb. 16.
A detour that will restrict access to the Courtney Campbell Causeway and the Veterans Expressway from Tampa International Airport may affect drivers leaving the Airport for one night this week.
Construction crews will close two exits – State Road 60 West/Clearwater and State Road 589 North/Veterans Expressway – from the George J. Bean Parkway from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. on the night of Feb. 16.
The closure is part of the Florida Department of Transportation’s work on the Westshore Interchange south of TPA and is necessary to reconfigure roadway barriers on the project.
To reach either SR 60 westbound or the Veterans Expressway northbound when leaving TPA, drivers will be detoured to the Spruce Street exit (SR 616 East/SR 60 East). The detour will follow a four-mile route from W. Spruce St. to N. Westshore Blvd. to W. Kennedy Blvd., leading to the interchange where motorists may take SR 60 westbound to Clearwater or the Veterans Expressway northbound.
The detour is similar to other closures for the project that have periodically occurred since last fall.
Please allow time to navigate the detour if you are departing TPA during one of these closures.
This work is part of FDOT’s Westshore Interchange Reconstruction project. You may find more details about the project here: https://www.fdottampabay.com/project/841/447107-1-52-01
