Tampa International Airport has the Lightning on its radar
The Tampa Bay Lightning are up 3-1 and heading back to Tampa for an opportunity to keep Lord Stanley in Tampa Bay for another year! From airfield logos to Thunder Bug hugs, the team spirit runs deep at TPA.
Last week, TPA hosted the Lightning on our airfield to teach our first responders some of the basics - and to referee over a quick match. With storms rolling through the area on Friday afternoon and planes touching down on the nearby runway, the Lightning crew set up an impromptu rink. The Airport Fire Rescue team scored early – and often – before taking a 5-3 victory over their Tampa Airport Police counterparts.
While the fire fighters took the day, everyone was a winner. At the end of the match, the Lightning gave all participants tickets to the official Lightning watch party.
Inside the Airport, TPA continued to show its support for the Stanley Cup hopefuls with digital signage throughout the terminal and Lightning merchandise.
With a shop named 'Tampa Bay Sports' in the heart of TPA's Main Terminal, it's evident that both passengers and employees love to represent their home teams. Tampa Bay Sports has stocked its shelves with plenty of playoff gear like hats and t-shirts.
This Main Terminal shop isn't the only one selling - check out News Channel 8 at airside C, Tampa Bay Times at airside E or CNBC at airside A for more merch. Should the Lightning win the Stanley Cup (again) Tampa Bay Sports will sell Stanley Cup Champions shirts the day after the final game.
