TPA launches Virtual 5k

After cancelling TPA's Annual 5K on the Runway earlier this year due to COVID-19, the race is back. And like everything else in 2020 - it's gone virtual.

Lace up, mask up and dress up for this year's Virtual 5k on the Runway which will conveniently be held the week before Halloween.

Here's how it works:

  • Register online (click the button above!) and pick a route of your own.
  • Get in costume or wear a retired 5k on the Runway shirt.
  • Walk or run any time between Oct. 24 and Nov. 1.
  • Upload race time and photos and wait for the medal in the mail. Runners can also download their race bib and finisher certificate online.

Registration is $25 and proceeds go to United Way Suncoast, which is currently working to support those in the community who have been hit hardest by the pandemic.

Since its inception, the TPA's 5K on the Runway has raised $562,945.62 in proceeds towards the local organization.

"We are grateful the race is returning this year in a virtual format," said United Way Suncoast CEO Jessica Muroff. "While being on the runway is a thrilling experience and we miss being together, running for our community is something we can all get excited about."

Runners are encouraged to dress up in their Halloween costumes and tag their photos on social media with the hashtag #TPA5k. There will be a prize for the best costume and racer participating at the greatest distance from TPA. Five lucky participants will be randomly selected to win complimentary race registrations to the 2021 5K on the Runway.

To participate in the costume contest, participants must upload photos to Active's Endurance App.
