Community Noise Alert

February 11, 2011

Notice to Tampa International Airport’s South Tampa neighbors

Effective daily from February 14th to the 18th the West parallel runway 1L-19R will be closed between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5  p.m. to complete work associated with the asphalt rehabilitation that took place under the Runway Redesignation Project. Sealant applied to the runway shoulders required 20 days to cure. Now that the sealant has cured, the shoulder markings can be repainted.

With this temporary closure, all jet traffic (turbojets and propeller) will be using Runways 1R-19L and 10-28. If you are a South Tampa resident you may be impacted.

When feasible, previous runway closures were scheduled during off-peak evening hours with the thought that fewer aircraft operations mean less of an impact to Airport neighbors.

In an effort to minimize the impact, while ensuring safety, this work will be performed during the day. Homeowners in attendance at the January 13, 2011 Community Noise Consortium meeting expressed a preference for daytime runway closures over nighttime closures when feasible. The main reason: the additional jet traffic is more tolerable during the day than it is in the evening when families are gathering and residents are winding down from a long day.

If you would like to join the Noise Alert Group to be notified of runway closures that may impact normal aircraft operations at the Airport, please visit tampaairport.com or call the Airport’s Noise Officer at 813-870-7843.

Thank you for your continued support.
